Back to school season is such a mixed bag of emotions for me. Do I want my sanity back? YES. Am I going to miss having so much time with the little critters? Sure... It's such an exciting time overall though. New possibilities! New clothes! And of course, a brand new backpack! Take that one step further this year with a little vinyl.
Most backpacks are polyester, but always be sure to check the tag just to be sure you know what you're dealing with. Don't get too hung up on the word "backpack," either. It doesn't have to be a standard backpack to carry books. Think about messenger bags, laptop bags, large purses, and much more!
The main thing to keep in mind if you want to apply to a backpack is what might get in the way: Zippers? Straps? Velcro? As always, be sure your DESIGN is getting all the pressure from your heat press or iron. If something around the area is getting in the way, you need to shape something underneath (like a towel) to lift the surface up.
If you're like me, you may start out by decorating the backpack of every child you know. There is nothing wrong with that. However, when you feel ready to branch out, these can be a great little money maker! Put a few for sale in your Etsy shop, or reach out to local organizations at your children's school that may be interested in them. What cheer team doesn't want customized little tote bags for all the girl’s pom-poms?
Have you made a backpack? Post a pic in the comments!
