As if you needed another reason to craft, I’m gonna give you one! We recently launched our new 2-step foil heat transfer product, and I have not been able to put it down. It kind of reminds me of those dresses where it looks like one style but then you receive a product card that shows the model wearing it 100+ different ways. This heat transfer foil gives off that same illusion, even your customers will be wondering how you did it!
In this tutorial, we will show you how you can add multiple colors to your design using the “crinkle” effect and layering this foil product.
So let’s start from the beginning, here is what you will need:
- 2 Step Foil – Adhesive HTV - Save 20% with the code FOIL20
- 2 or 3 colors of Foil Heat Transfer - Save 20% with the code FOIL20
- Reusable Coversheet
- Iron or Heat Press
- Silhouette Cameo,
CriCutExplore Air 2, or other craft vinyl cutter
Step 1: Cut and weed the adhesive heat transfer vinyl
This is the only thing you will need to cut and weed in this project! You can treat it just like you would any standard
Place the carrier sheet side face down on your mat and be sure to mirror your image. Indicate which type of material you will be
Step two: Press the adhesive iron on vinyl
Preheat your garment for 4 seconds to remove all wrinkles and moisture. Lay the design with the carrier sheet side up to protect the vinyl. Adjust the pressure to “light” and your temperature to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Once all settings have been made you can press your design for 10 seconds! When complete you can peel the carrier sheet off warm, no need to wait!
Step three: Press the foil heat transfer
Here comes the fun part! This is the step that you will get to experiment with in the future. You can change how many colors you use and how much you crinkle your foil to reach different effects. With our project, we chose to use the teal foil first. We crumbled the vinyl in a ball and gently laid it on top of the adhesive (color facing up). The more your crumble up the foil, the more distressed your design will look, so this is completely up to you.
With heavy pressure, we pressed for 9 seconds. I know you are anxious to see your design but make sure you let your design cool off before peeling. Don’t be scared when you see that your foil left blank spots, this is exactly what we want. Now you can lay down the second color of foil which we will not be distressing. Gently place the foil (color side up) on top of your design and press again. Once cooled, remove the foil from the adhesive. You should now see both the teal and the pink on your design!
How cool is this? We didn’t even need to weed the foil! This was just one example of how you could use this product but we would love to see what you guys come up with. With so many different colors and patterns available your options are endless! So craft away and be sure to tag us in any of your creations!
