Creating Decorative Pillows with Flock HTV

Creating Decorative Pillows with Flock HTV

Guys, my addiction started! I have not been able to stop creating new pillow designs with our Flock heat transfer vinyl. It could be my background in Interior Design or my new apartment but either way, I am in love. Pillows are a great way to change up your décor without breaking the bank! This way you don’t have to think twice about what style you want to go with for your home, you could even change it up every month if you wish!

Pillows can be very inexpensive and offered in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. I found these covers at IKEA for a great price! Wherever you buy your pillow (or make it) just make sure that the fabric is made of something you can heat apply to.

Here are a few of my recent creations:

This triangle shape was a file I received in my library when I downloaded Silhouette Studio. I took the triangle and duplicated it to form a single column down the center of the pillow. I used the Sunset Orange Flock HTV which really popped against the blue background! Remember to do a test cut in your software before sending the design to cut. Since Flock is a fuzzy, suede-like vinyl, it will be a little thicker.

I found this button graphic in my Silhouette library as well. I duplicated the image and spaced it evenly down the center. I used Artichoke and Deep Sea Ocean Flock HTV for this design but you could easily change the colors of the buttons or even add a pattern on the pillow case to match your space. This would be perfect for a nursery!

This pillow already had a great pattern on the background so I wanted to incorporate a design where it showed through as well. I created 3 identical rectangles made from Night Sky Flock Heat Transfer Vinyl and subtracted the text on top to allow for the pattern on the pillow to be revealed. This was super simple and could be applied to any theme you may need! This is a style that also looks good on t-shirts and is very popular right now.

For this pillow, I wanted to give it a rustic feel. I found the perfect font called “Sensations and Qualities” which had a distressed look and weeded out easily.  I went with the color Tree Bark Flock HTV (how perfect) which is a muted purple hue. I think this would be a perfect entry way design on a bench! This is a design that you could easily sell at a rustic, fall craft show as well.

When cutting these designs, I went to our website to look up the recommended application instructions. They all cut perfectly on my Silhouette Cameo with my blade at 3, the speed at 5, and thickness at 18. My pink heat press was the perfect size to apply with at 320º F. After just waiting a few seconds for it to cool I peeled it back and had my finished project!

I hope these examples found you in inspired to create your own, as I would love to see them! Comment below or tag us with your latest creations. If you're on Instagram, use the hashtag #happycrafters. Who knows, you may even see us sharing your gorgeous vinyl creations!
